3 Tips for Travellers to Vietnam

Vietnam is a popular destination with travellers and it’s easy to see why. There’s so much to do and you can easily be in the big city one day, and then on a beautiful beach the next. So, if you’re planning to travel to Vietnam, how do you make the most of it? Follow these tips for a successful trip.

  1. Visit at the right time of year

There’s not really a wrong time of year to visit Vietnam but it depends on the type of traveller you are. There’s high-humidity year-round, so it can be extremely hot some days, and pouring with rain on others. Spring and autumn are usually the best time to visit, so March and April or September to December, as the weather is a little more pleasant and predictable. However, outside of this time, you can get cheaper deals.

  1. See as much as you can

Vietnam is huge, so you should have a plan in place to see as much as possible. Some tips for this include:

  • Picking one area, i.e. North, Central, or South Vietnam for your trip
  • Finding good deals on internal flights to get around
  • Taking a guided tour
  • Look for trains and buses aimed at backpackers, as they tend to offer fast services between the popular areas

You don’t need to rush around Vietnam, as you won’t enjoy its beauty as much, but efficient planning is important.

  1. Pick well-located accommodation

If you want to make the most of a country, you need to stay in handy location that’s close to sightseeing spots and more. For example, booking a Saigon central hotel (known as khách sạn trung tâm sài gòn in Vietnamese)  will save you a lot of time, as you’re in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City, and you can walk to many attractions. Without needing to work out public transport, you save time, so can fill your days with more things to do. This is important when you’re visiting a large area and may have a short amount of time.

If you’re considering going to Vietnam, whether you’ll be travelling to the country exclusively or as part of a backpacking trip, the right planning is key to a great trip. Because the country is vast, it’s not the sort of place where you can land and wing it. You should have a plan in place to make the most of your stay and ensure you see the best it has to offer.
